Guarantee anonymity so employees answer honestly

Employees only speak the truth when they trust they are anonymous. Steps to set up and communicate it to lift honest response rates.

A dashboard is only worth it when employees dare to speak the truth. That depends on whether they trust they are genuinely anonymous.

Why anonymity decides quality

If employees fear being traced, they answer “safely” → falsely positive numbers you cannot act on. True anonymity is a precondition for a credible survey.

Steps to guarantee it

  1. Separate identity from responses — use an anonymous survey link, no names/emails attached.
  2. Communicate transparently — tell employees the data is anonymised with 2-layer PII redaction.
  3. Minimum group threshold — groups that are too small are not shown separately in the dashboard.
  4. Commit to action — leaders announce they will act on the results, building trust for future rounds.

Send reminders, explain it is short, and emphasise that the results will lead to concrete change.
