What is eNPS and how to read it

eNPS (Employee Net Promoter Score) measures how willing employees are to recommend the company. How to calculate, read, and act on it.

eNPS 0–10 scale split into Detractors, Passives and Promoters with the calculation formula
eNPS groups respondents on a 0–10 scale, then subtracts % Detractors from % Promoters (illustrative).

eNPS (Employee Net Promoter Score) measures how willing employees are to recommend the company as a place to work, based on the question: “How likely are you to recommend the company to a friend or colleague?” (a 0–10 scale).

How it is calculated

Classify respondents by score:

eNPS = % Promoters − % Detractors, giving a result from −100 to +100.

How to read it

How to act

Read eNPS alongside scores by theme to understand why: detractors typically drop on pay/benefits, recognition, or their direct manager. Focus on the one or two highest-impact drivers rather than fixing everything at once.
